Nursery, Modigliana, Italy
The key elements of the project are: the orographic difference in height between two pre-existing schools, represented by a difference of about four meters, and the inclusion in an area with large trees.
The new kindergarten is located in the center of the two pre-existing schools without cutting down any trees, and facing the difference between the two heights with the insertion of the new building along the existing level curves.
The new school generates two types of outdoor spaces: on the ground floor a garden protected by a wall; on the roof an educational vegetable garden and a botanical garden. These two outdoor spaces are connected in two ways: from outside with a ramp running next to the south wall; from inside with six stairs.
The materialization of the new school evokes the memory of the Roman brick architecture present in the area.
