School, Albino, Italy

The project fits within the site, at an urban level, efficiently and adequately, creating a building in balance with the outdoor spaces. The large entrance to the building allows for an easy and safe circulation of children as well as creating a "social square". The new kindergarten was conceived not so much as a simple school but as a home. The kindergarten is a place where children, in their first years of life, must perceive the educational space as a protected and domestic place. The building, in fact, is shaped from the archetype of the pitched house with a chimney. The central theme has therefore become the pitches and the chimney, or rather: the classrooms and the connective. In fact, the classrooms are characterized by a pitched roof that lowers towards the garden, while the chimney, transformed into a skylight, illuminates and brings life to the corridors. The union of two corridors generates an internal square created for leisure and social life. The classrooms are naturally lit from above: they capture natural light through the mezzanines which themselves capture light from the skylight in the corridor. The architecture is simple and linear. The volumes, through their geometries, shape spaces and functions in a clear way: the pitches represent the classrooms; the chimney represents the corridor. These volumes allow you to clearly perceive the link between the school and the gardens.
